Prey recorded includes a variety of fishes and squids (Stacey et al. 1994). False killer whales are the "blackfish" most often seen chasing or attacking dolphins of the genera Stenella and Delpbinus during tuna fishing operations in the eastern tropical Pacific (Perryman and Foster 1980). There is also one report of false killer whales attacking and apparently killing a humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) calf in Hawaii (Hoyt 1983) and another of harassment towards an adult humpback in the Colombian Pacific (Flórez-González et al. 1994a). Here we report on an attack by false killer whales on sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) in the Galápagos Islands and discuss the possible significance of such interactions.
