Resumen: Galápagos faces serious conservation and socioeconomic problems caused by invasive ant species. Yet, it is difficult to infer how many of the ant species in the archipelago are introduced/invasive and how many are native. Regular monitoring is key for the early detection of new invasive species. This requires a comprehensive taxonomic database of ants from the Galápagos islands and mainland Ecuador. This presentation reports on the progress of a joint Belgian-Ecuadorian FWO project aiming at producing such a database.
