THORELL described the orb-weaver, Gasteracantha insulana. BuTLER (1877), MARX (1890) and BANKS (1902, 1924 and 1930) added gradually to our knowledge of the spider fauna on the Islands, while other workers have contributed a few lesser notes or descriptions. Since BANKS' 1902 list of the Galápagos spiders appeared more than half of the species have been placed in other genera, correctly identified or synonymized, and 19 additional species were added to the list by BANKS and other authors. In the present report an additional eight families, 18 genera, and 25 species are recorded, with 87 new Island records for a total of 76 species.
