520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The following pages related to my experiences and observations during the most extreme El Niño season of which there are records. The changes wrought in the climate brought about major changes in population size for some organisms and others were forced to flee the islands in search of sufficient food for survival, for the seas of the eastern Pacific became impoverished. The regular patterns of distribution of many animals were disrupted and there would appear to have been some powerful selection pressures brought to bear on several species. One wonders how much Niño years have been responsible for the remarkable assemblages of organims which now exist within the archipelago.

It was my fortune to be working as a National Park Naturalist Guide within the islands during this period and it has left a deep impression on me for the rapidity with which these changes took place and the differing abilities of creatures and plants to deal with them. Are these organisms finely adapted or are they victims of fate and chance?
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
