520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Fueron recogidas muestras de Drosophiia de las Islas Santa Cruz (Indefatigable) y San Cristóbal (Chatam) de Galápagos.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Samples of Drosophiia were collected from Island Santa Cruz (Indefatigable) and Island San Cristóbal (Chatam) Galapagos, Ecuador.
2. Drosophiia could not be found in Pinzón (Duncan), one of the small and arid islands of the Archipelago.
3. Drosophiia collected in the town of Puerto Ayora and the Charles Darwin Research Station (Island Santa Cruz) were studied at the chromosomal level on cytological preparations of salivary gland chromosomes.
4. The chromosomal analysis showed that these flies are identical with Drosophiia simulans. The results, therefore, show that this species has not suffered mutations or alterations at the chromosomal level in the Galápagos, and therefore, suggest a recent introduction to the Islands by man.
5. Autoradiographic studies in Drosophiia simulans (from Europe) of DNA replication in the X chromosome of the male revealed that most of the X chromosome replicates its DNA in advance of the autosomes. Some regions of the X chromosome, considered as heterochromatic, replicate later, remaining labelled until the total nuclear replication is completed
