Red-footed Boobies Sula sula nest on oceanic islands throughout the tropics. and their nestlings are notable among seabirds for their slow growth and the long periods that they spend unattended by parents (Ricklefs 1972. Nelson 1978). These reproductive characteristics have been considered as evolutionary solutions to problems imposed by the dispersed and unpredictable distribution of their pelagic fish prey (Nelson 1978)
